This afternoon, we experienced one of the strongest storms in a long time. Heavy rain, hail, thunder, and lightening, which had Sophie cowering on her bed under all the blankets.
Unfortunately, we met the storm on the drive home from Gary’s parents house; we made it home safely through the flooded streets with the car pelted with hailstones (no damage to the car, thank God).
We’ve had over 2 inches of rain, with about 1 1/2 inches falling in the span of 30 minutes.
The weather is meant to clear tomorrow so perhaps the water level in the stream and pond will start to go down.
Our orchid is in full bloom. It’s very pretty, so I thought I would share it here.
We are in the middle of spring, but the last few days have been quite wintry, with cool weather and rain. This week, however, is meant to be sunny and seasonably warm.
I told Gary, “you’ll have to get the kids ready for bed, I have to go outside and take photos.” The light was just beautiful that evening.
I wandered around the garden, listening to the wonderful sound of the birds calling out to each other from tree to tree. The evening sun was sneaking through the branches; the dappled light made gorgeous shadows on all the plants. I turned and looked back up at the house, and the light striking it was just too beautiful not to photograph.
So I did.
During the school holidays, Rachel and Sophie were the official bird-sitters for their class bird, Skylight. So Skylight spent two weeks in our dining room, which I’m sure was a change from the classroom. She seemed a bit unsure the first day, but settled in nicely.
She’s now back to her usual home in the classroom; but not before leaving behind a pile of feathers and some old birdseed.
You may have noticed the new link on my menu above that says “Photos”. If you click there, you will land on a page of my photo albums that are stored on Flickr. Clicking on a photo album will show you all the photos in that album. You can then click on an individual photo to see it larger, or you can click the link to see all the photos in a slideshow.
Hope you enjoy this new feature of my site.
